At MauiZoom, we take drone regulations seriously. Our commitment to safety and legal compliance ensures that all our aerial photography and videography services are conducted according to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and local laws.
FAA Part 107 Certified Remote Pilots
All MauiZoom drone operators hold current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificates, allowing us to legally operate drones for commercial purposes. Our pilots undergo regular training to stay current with regulations and best practices.
Comprehensive Insurance Coverage
MauiZoom maintains full liability insurance coverage for all drone operations, providing peace of mind for our clients and protection for all parties involved.
All MauiZoom drone operations adhere to FAA regulations, including:
• Flying below 400 feet above ground level
• Maintaining visual line of sight with the drone at all times
• Not flying over people not involved in the operation
• Flying only during daylight hours or civil twilight with appropriate lighting
• Yielding right of way to manned aircraft
• Not operating from a moving vehicle
• Conducting pre-flight inspections and maintaining aircraft
We respect all restricted airspace and no-fly zones in Maui, including:
Airports and Heliports
Kahului Airport (OGG), Kapalua Airport (JHM), and various heliports around the island have restricted airspace. We obtain proper authorization when operating within these areas.
National Parks
Drone operations are prohibited in Haleakalā National Park. Our services can capture the beauty of areas surrounding the park while respecting these boundaries.
Wildlife Sanctuaries
We respect protected wildlife areas and maintain appropriate distances to avoid disturbing native species.
For operations in controlled airspace or other restricted areas, MauiZoom obtains the necessary authorizations through the FAA's LAANC (Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability) system or through formal airspace authorization requests when required.
When booking our services, clients should be aware of the following:
• Property permissions: Clients are responsible for obtaining permission for drone operations on private property they don't own
• Location restrictions: Some requested locations may have flight restrictions that limit or prevent drone operations
• Weather conditions: Flights may need to be rescheduled due to unsafe weather conditions
• Timeline flexibility: Obtaining special authorizations for certain areas may require additional time
Drone regulations continue to evolve. MauiZoom stays current with all regulatory changes to ensure ongoing compliance. We regularly participate in professional development and industry updates to maintain our knowledge and skills.
If you have questions about drone regulations or how they might affect your project, please contact us. We're happy to discuss the feasibility of your project and any regulatory considerations.
