Every Kai Mana song begins with listening—to the ocean breathing at night, to the wind through ironwood trees, to the pulse of rain on volcanic soil. From this listening emerges music that feels like place itself: humble, profound, and alive.

Named for the power of the sea, Kai Mana’s sound draws from percussion, ʻukulele and guitar textures, ambient sound, and vocal harmony. Some pieces carry a reflective stillness; others carry rhythmic warmth. The project is guided by aloha, gratitude, and a deep respect for Maui and the Hawaiian people. Kai Mana’s fictional ensemble comprises voices inspired by elemental forces: ocean, land, wind, earth, and stars. Kai Mana is created and directed by Reinhard Elischka of Maui Zoom Creative. Reinhard has lived on Maui since 1990. A retired professional windsurfer who still spends time in the ocean daily through kiteboarding, he brings a lived relationship with wind, water, and island life to the project’s perspective.

Kai Mana is an imagined, Maui-inspired world—not a claim to represent traditional Hawaiian cultural practice or to speak for Native Hawaiian communities. The project is made with deep respect, love, and gratitude for the Hawaiian people and the island of Maui.
